Social Media Management: Can an Introvert Become a Social Media Manager?

I am interested in pursuing a career in marketing. Imagining the glamorous world of Mad Men, where creative men and women collaborate to create marketing campaigns that transform their clients’ businesses, makes you feel like you are in a dream. It is enjoyable to daydream about yourself succeeding in this career, however, your quiet personality does not seem to fit in the seemingly loud world of marketing.

In the marketing profession, the idea that only extroverts should pursue the field is based on a misunderstanding of both introversion and marketing. A person who is introverted is not afraid of people; they simply require time alone to recharge. When you prefer meaningful, one-on-one relationships over making small talk with a new acquaintance, or when you are most productive when you have time to think alone, then you may be an introvert.

What Are Introverts?

The term introvert refers to a person who exhibits characteristics of a personality type known as introversion, which means that they are more comfortable focusing on their own internal thoughts and ideas, rather than what is happening around them. It is more enjoyable for them to spend time with just one or two people, as opposed to large crowds or large groups of people.

Introverts are typically shy or quiet individuals who prefer to spend much of their time alone. Despite the fact that this may be true for some introverts, there is much more to this personality type than that. It is entirely up to you to determine whether you are an introvert or an extrovert based on the way you perceive the world around you.

The Ability to Communicate Naturally Is Still Available to You

It is important to note that communication means something different to everyone. It may be as simple as making eye contact with another person or waving to greet them. In some cases, it may be as simple as an @ mention on Twitter or adding a coworker on LinkedIn. You should keep your communication skills sharp and acknowledge everyone who works alongside you for their hard work when working on social media, but you can also do it however feels most comfortable to you.

What Are the Chances of an Introvert Becoming a Social Media Manager?

Several psychologists believe that introversion contributes to creativity by focusing the mind on the task at hand and preventing energy from being dissipated on unrelated matters.

An introvert may find a Social Media Manager to be the ideal occupation, even though it may seem like a social job at first glance. At the end of the day, this position involves most of the communication taking place through a computer screen, with little face-to-face contact between the employee and the audience.

Moreover, a Social Media Manager must be creative to develop content for various social networks, and as Hans Eysenck has observed, those with introverted tendencies are more likely to provide themselves with the time and solitude needed to be creative.

Introverts’ Marketing Advice

Introversion is a characteristic of your personality, not a weakness you should overcome. It is important to learn how to work with your personality rather than against it if you wish to find your place in the marketing field.

The choice of the right role at the right organization can make all the difference in finding the right marketing career for you.

Introverts in any career can expect to interact with other people to some extent, regardless of what job they choose. If you are aware of the situations that make you uncomfortable, you can ensure that you are prepared so that you are never caught off guard.

Conclusion

The social sphere, therefore, requires both introverts and extroverts. It has been shown that extroverts are better at motivating passive members of a team, whereas introverts excel at motivating motivated individuals. Being an introvert is the ultimate goal of a manager as it enables them to establish a quiet force and lead by example. Regardless of whether a crisis is occurring or not, an introverted social media manager will approach any crisis rationally and with a sense of reason. This is the essence of Theodore Roosevelt’s Big Stick doctrine (“speak softly and carry a big stick”) and ensures that they will deal with it with ration and reason to the very end.
